Okay I’ll try to resist making more text posts for a while but I need to tell this cute story about my step dad and my cat.

When I dumped my ex, he had been taking care of my cat for me since, well, he loves cats. He loves cats, he had his own place, I was there pretty often anyway, and my mom’s house has a dog and my stepdad hates cats. Well he says he hates kitty litter rather than cats. In fact we didn’t even really get his permission when we got Duo and brought him here, I just cried a lot and we smuggled him in eventually and stepdad found out after the dog hauled some dirty kitty litter out of the garbage to eat, god dogs are gross.

ANYWAY

Stepdad has been largely indifferent to Duo most of the time, which Duo is TOTALLY OKAY with. He’s not the sort of cat that searches for attention out of the blue, he wants to come to you when he’s damn well ready. So it took him a long time to  not be scared of Stepdad, actually. I’ve been hassled a couple of times about the kitty litter - stepdad is super sensitive to smells - but otherwise it’s been pretty painless. Duo is a good, quiet cat who doesn’t get into trouble most of the time.

At one point I remember being downstairs playing Persona 4 and Stepdad came in and had a chuckle and I looked up and Duo was laying out on the wood stove, which I guess he thought was the cutest thing ever. And now and again, lately, he calls Duo on his way up the stairs. You know, “pswswswsw!” Duo doesn’t really respond though since he mostly just likes me.

So I guess Duo has grown on him because he told my mom that maybe, MAYBE… when they move into their next house… she can get a cat.

Which is sort of incredibly adorable, hahah. Duo’s a good cat.

This of course means that they’ll probably get one shortly after I move out and take Duo with me. She went looking around the SPCA website the other day and he formally declared that HE GETS TO PICK THE CAT.

Which is sort of a bossy thing that I usually hate but it’s funny because, like… what sort of cat is he going to want? I can just imagine him trying to make these informed business decisions on how to pick a cat that’s a lot like Duo but then falling for some kitty’s lovely green eyes or something, and then forever that cat is not actually mom’s cat but his cat.

Anyway it’s pretty cute.
