I think if Jewish people are upset about something they see as Antisemitic non-Jewish people (like me) should take a seat. I have no idea of your status RE:Judaism but if you’re a gentile I think you should be more respectful.
Okay the fact that the MoV-parallel theory is hilariously and absolute bullshit is entirely separate from the fact the the track title is majorly offensive (and likely inspired by the “pound of smut” reference unfortunately) and should probably be changed for the next album release. The OP of the MoV theory wasn’t trying to call out offensive content in the comic, though. They were unnecessarily reframing Act 6 as a retelling of a problematic literary work because they recognized a common Shakespeare reference in the text once and felt clever. I appreciate what you are trying to tell me, but I don’t really feel like apologizing for thinking that a theory that uses an offensive reference within the meta-text of the story to position the main villain as a literal Shylock expy is bad. The title of the track is bad. Using the title of the track to say “Hey, LE is literally like Shylock” is incredibly obnoxious. Why are we pretending that this is an accurate parallel for the OP to have made just because MoV is an offensive play?
Yo and also, I’m not trying to be all “I am the Lorax, I speak for the Jews,” but I found the plethora of totally ill-thought through posts on my dash about LORD ENGLISH IS JEWISH SO THE MOST EVIL CHARACTER IN HOMESTUCK IS JEWISH!!!111 to be hugely upsetting in their own right. Sitting back all “well as a Gentile I don’t know whether or not to be offended” is a good idea in general, but that doesn’t mean ‘therefore please flood your Jewish friends with really upsetting nonsense that then turns out to have nothing to do with the actual comic.’
Oh my god, did people say that?
I’m so sorry
